Yes, we can save the world!
Established during the unforgetful year of 2020, we understand how much weight the words ‘save the world’ holds.
A simple act of donating your old garments can help in a significant way to reestablish the balance in the world.
Let’s prove it with facts and figures. We are sure that you will agree that we must save water, save the climate and save the land. But what you may not know is that the textile industry has a harmful impact in all the three. The production of one T-shirt consumes 2000 litres of water, releases harmful greenhouse gases (GHG) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas) like carbon dioxide and methane, and takes years to decompose. It means that if we just reduce the production by one T-shirt, we will be able to save water, climate and the land. It can be achieved through smart consumerism. Buy what you need. Choose renewable or recyclable options. Repurpose your product or donate it after its use. And if your product really needs to be discarded then send it to be recycled.
In the case of textiles and apparels, all the above steps are possible. This was the eye-opener which persuaded two fashion management students from NIFT, Patna to establish BOLD. Pratibha Kiran and Priya Sharma, both hail from the same hometown of Ranchi, Jharkhand. Therefore, the first event of BOLD was also conducted in Ranchi on the eve of Christmas 2020. They collected few items from their society and visited a local NGO which at that time only had 13 children out of the average 60 due to the pandemic lockdown. According to Pratibha, even this small event was a success for them.
‘There were only 13 kids in the NGO. We took the garments collected from our society to distribute amongst them. However, we first played a game of passing and parcel, and distributed the garments as a reward. Believe me, the smile in the face of these kids were that of an achievement.
And the feeling generated in our heart was of pure satisfaction’.
- Pratibha Kiran, Founder
This establishes that the work done by BOLD brings multidimensional benefits to each of its stakeholder.
The parent company of BOLD is Singing Footstep Foundation with its headquarter located in Faridabad.
We are a non-profit organization which aim to work collaboratively with the government and different communities, and redirect the huge amount of discarded garments from the landfills to the people who needs them, and simultaneously save the environment from the repercussion of fast fashion.
